Nature Film Night
Join us for a relaxing evening while we view a series of short films showcasing local nature and conservation. The film night will be hosted at the Berwick Theatre, inside Berwick Qualicum Beach. Water and popcorn will be provided. Some titles included in the screening are as follows:
The Silver Highway: Produced by the Conservancy Hornby Island in 2024, written by Grant Scott and Bob Turner, this short film showcases the annual return of Pacific herring to the waters around Hornby Island.
Triangle Island: As hard as it is to get to, Triangle Island was one of the first places where Canadian biologists started recognizing the implications of a warming climate on seabirds. This film was produced in 1979 by Michael Scott and Anne Wheeler, following Bristol Foster, head of the BC Ecological Reserves Program at the time, guiding us across the island through colonies of birds and sea lions.
Way of the Hunter: Deep in the Great Bear Rainforest, against the backdrop of British Columbia’s breathtaking wilderness, a former hunter comes to terms with his past and looks with hope towards the future. Exploring one man’s evolving relationship with the natural world, this short film tells the compelling story of Robert Moberg, a hunter who ultimately traded his gun for a camera.
The Bird in my Backyard: Produced by Ryan Wilkes and Trochilus films in association with CBC, this short film follows citizen scientist, Eric Pittman, as he documents the journeys of two female Anna’s hummingbirds as they attempt to raise their young in his urban garden. It’s a story about the childlike curiosity in all of us, the wonders it can reveal and the doors it can open if we just lean in a bit closer.
Registration is required as space is limited.
