SUMMARY:Biodiversity and Conservation Education Series: Parksville Wetlands
DESCRIPTION:The Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region (MABR) Biodiversity and Conservation Education Series focuses on the significance of biological diversity in the MABR, highlights regional conservation initiatives, and offers opportunities for community engagement. Many organizations within the MABR are active in stewardship, restoration, monitoring, and educational activities, supporting conservation of biodiversity and enhancing community connections with nature. As volunteers drive the success of these efforts, this series partners with and showcases volunteer-led initiatives and demonstrates opportunities for future participation and engagement.\nJoin us on Monday, April 7th 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm for the next installment of the series hosted during the Brant Wildlife Festival, in collaboration with the City of Parksville. The Parksville Wetlands is largely surrounded by a natural succession forest with a diverse range of wetland plant species, unique marsh birds, and amphibians. It acts as a water filtration, flood mitigation, and contributes to Parkville’s aquifer. Graham Gidden, Manager of Parks, will guide a walking tour through the Parksville Wetlands to showcase the restoration, stewardship, and management activities that have been undertaken here to enhance conservation of biodiversity while also maintaining recreational space in the community.\nRegistration is required and capacity is limited to 20 participants on a first come, first served basis.\n
