SUMMARY:Lift-Off Gala
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Beach Club Resort in Parksville while we raise a glass for nature! This fundraiser will feature a silent auction and 50/50 raffle with all proceeds going towards the Brant Wildlife Festival.\nThe evening will begin with a traditional welcome ceremony provided by ‘Ćumqwa:tun’ (Lawrence) Mitchell, Snaw-naw-as First Nation, to kick off the event in a good way. The event will proceed with a brief presentation by The Nature Trust of British Columbia. We will then enjoy an informative presentation by Dr. Sean Boyd, Emeritus Research Scientist with the Science & Technology Branch of Environment & Climate Change Canada and an Adjunct Professor in the Biology Department of Simon Fraser University. Sean has studied the winter ecology and population dynamics of Wrangel Island Snow Geese, migration behavior of Brant Geese, Harlequin Ducks, Barrow’s Goldeneye, Scoters, and Eared Grebes, at-sea foraging distributions of Cassin’s Auklets, and the ecology of Fraser River estuary tidal marshes. His projects are long-term in nature, and many involve the use of VHF and satellite telemetry to study migration and connectivity patterns. This presentation will discuss Brant population dynamics and migration ecology, including connections with the Parksville Qualicum Beach Wildlife Management Area (PQBWMA).\nEnjoy an evening of live music, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar. Doors open at 5:00 PM. Don’t forget to bring cash if you’d like to participate in the 50/50 raffle and silent auction fundraiser!\n
